Dad's heart will go on!

This picture was taken in May 2007. It was outside the Bellagio Hotel.

We spent many fun times in Las Vegas. As you can tell by the picture it was a hot day. What you cannot tell is it was a VERY hot day. It was actually 102 degrees. Standing by the water was very refreshing. We actually felt like jumping in. Dad loved coming out to the States. It is almost a year now since he came here for the last time.

A refreshing addition to your entertainment options, the Fountains of Bellagio were destined to romance your senses. Take in a complimentary Las Vegas show of water, music and light thoughtfully interwoven to mesmerize its admirers. All for your amusement, the most ambitious, choreographically complex water feature ever conceived amazes against the beautiful backdrop of Las Vegas' lavender sky. Each dynamic performance from the Fountains collection is unique in its expression and interpretation. Fall in love with the stunning nature of this unprecedented aquatic accomplishment while relishing a clever concert of opera, classical and Broadway tunes.

On this particular occasion, Celine Dion was singing:

Every night in my dreams I see you, I feel you,
That is how I know you go on
Far across the distance and spaces between us
You have come to show you go on
Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
Love can touch us one time
And last for a lifetime
And never let go till we're gone
Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life we'll always go on
Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
You're here, there's nothing I fear,
And I know that my heart will go on
We'll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

Little did we know during this visit that Dad would be struck by this disease but these words are very poignant. His heart WILL go on and his spirit too.

I would gamble all I had to make Dad well again. I know it has to take more than a gamble for that to happen.

"We love you Dad"

Hi Maxine,

I LOVE Vegas. The last time I was there it was 110 degrees according to the signs. It did cool down to 100 degrees by midnight though.

You are right about the song. It is particularly poignant, and I'm sure there will be many that feel that way. Your dad has a big heart that is filled with love for his fellow man. He has always loved people, and can speak with all of them freely and easily, whether they be kings or commoners. There are lines in Rudyard Kipling's poem, "IF" that sum up your dad as a person, (In fact, the whole poem does) and how he is with other people. It says,

"...If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;..."

and a little further on we read,

"
...If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;..."

Your dad has always been a courageous man, who stood by his principles at all times, and in all places. In doing so, however, I never found him overbearing or arrogant. It was just a case of, "This is what I believe in. I will not insist that you do so, but please don't ask me to move away from it."

He is a man I will always be proud to call my friend.
